Come 2022 from Feb 15th – Feb 20th, bacchanal and exposure of flesh will be the bywords of expression during the last days before the Roman Catholic period of Lent. Costumes exposing the “best of Brazilian artistry” titillate protestant sensibilities and “inspire” the locals to even more displays of “artistry”!!
Real carnival is a relaxed (yes relaxed!) and vibrant exposé of life and music. Drumming is at the heart of it and at Pelourinho square in Salvador is where it’s at. Rio’s Sambadrome experience is carnival with twin carburettors, but as in the North east blocos or drum bands rule, and watch out for Mangueira’s rose and green livery waiting to take away first prize… yet again
