April

Where to head during April when visiting Latin America or South East Asia

April trends for Asia

One of the favourite countries of Globe at one is Cambodia and during April sits the Khmer new year falling on the 13th day of the month. This is a traditional festival as opposed to the electronic dance music raves that do take place in Pub Street in Siem Reap, but on the 14th of April there is organised the Angkor Sangkran in the said town which takes in all cultural art forms designed to push back a scene that was starting to envelope some of the tourist oriented towns in the country.

Battambang is another out of the way town and one of the most relaxed places to visit, not on the tourist trail and with wonderful people, what better place to get out of the hustle and bustle of Siem Reap or Phnom Penh.

April trends for Latin America

Uruguay ushers in the Festival of Gaucho culture in Tacuarembó to the north of the country, this is the perfect excuse to experience everything associated with the River Plate, horses, wine, asados (barbecues) and gaucho based music.

Grape harvests are also celebrated in Argentina’s Mendoza region called the Vendimia festival as well as Chile’s adjacent regions across the Andes. These Xanadu parts of the world host countless festivals where you can indulge the cousin cultures of gaucho and tango (they drank between dancing)

São Paulo is the largest city in South America at around 21 million people and largely sidestepped but during March the restaurant week commences for 2 weeks where one must remember that most of mother earth descended upon during the 19th and 20th centuries. Italians, Portuguese, Africans, Japanese, Koreans, Germans, Spaniards all transported their cuisine to this corner of Brazil, indeed the city can be considered an Italian colony so expect fine food and culture to greet you.

This is considered the workshop of Brazil and the business centre but the city is as much a cultural powerhouse as Rio, it is a sophisticated metropolis.
