July

Where to head during July when visiting Latin America or South East Asia

July trends for South East Asia

If you happen to be in Brunei then the Sultan’s birthday (July the 15th) ushers in a week of processions, fireworks and markets and a good way of seeing Brunei with its hair down.

If oriental cuisine is your thing then head to Singapore for the month long Food Festival which is significant in a city where the culture surrounding food is taken seriously.

As of 2021 there were over 40 Michelin Star restaurants in Singapore but there are also street sellers and other establishments that augment the festival since many different places do food which certainly eclipses Chinatown in London for sure not least the 2 hawker stalls that have also achieved Michelin star standard, no surprise there!

April trends for Latin America

Ecuador is not all about the Andes, Guayaquil sits on the equator on the Pacific and is Ecuador’s tropical window on the world and on the 24th of July they celebrate the birth of Simón Bolívar. The Malecón 2000 is the place to hang out though and has excellent seafood eateries as well as great views over the Guayas river and beyond.

Skiing in Argentina and Chile is possible and for Argentina Bariloche, San Martin de Los Andes, or Villa La Angostura usually come up as locations for scenery, price and accessibility and from June until October these resorts are open for visiting.

For an off the beaten track destination during July there is San Salvador’s Fiesta Julias in Santa Ana taking place between the 17th and the 26th of July, the town is 64kms from San Salvador and will engender a more relaxed atmosphere as a consequence.
