Where to head during August when visiting Latin America or South East Asia

August trends for Latin America

Usually during August, the main Tango festival of Latin America kicks off in Buenos Aires, Argentina providing a dance spectacle lasting for 2 weeks. There is in attendance an international crowd knowledgeable about the twists and turns of this, Argentina’s most recognisable dance form not to mention the music accompanying the dance floor movements. All around downtown Buenos Aires you can hear, buy and experience the background to an art form that formed during the early colonial period when single men and prostitutes along thrives Plate concocted the perfect ingredients for such a cultural casserole!

Buenos Aires was also the town of Diego Maradona and his legacy still lives on if you want to take in a football match at the historic Bonbonera stadium in the old La Boca neighbourhood as the football season begins to wind down.

Football in Brazil is also starting to wind down also and if you’re in Rio de Janeiro or Sao Paulo the games come thick, fast and intense as any in Europe, sport being part of the cultural currency of both Argentina and Brazil.

If football isn’t your thing, then Rio and Buenos Aires both have infinite attractions to satisfy the curious mind.

Hoi An in Vietnam at this time of year nestles in a waning summer where the temperatures are in the mid-20s centigrade during the day and therefore not too oppressive. This city established in the 7th century has been an important centre of the country in one way or another.

Huế on the other hand is best remembered as a theatre of conflict during the Vietnam war, but nowadays the old Imperial City in the centre of town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
